What does a medical assistant earn?
We do not publish a single salary figure for medical assistant roles, because pay varies by country, region, seniority, and employer. Use primary sources rather than a generic average:
Outside the United States, check the national statistics agency for your country. If you are asked for salary expectations, research the local range first and give a band rather than a single number.
How to write a medical assistant resume
- 1
Lead with the filter the recruiter uses
For medical assistant roles that is vital signs and epic. Put both in the top third of the page.
- 2
Write bullets as result, then action
Start with the outcome and its number, then explain what you did. A reader should be able to skim only the first four words of each bullet and still understand your impact.
- 3
Group skills by function
Split your skills into clinical, administrative, systems, compliance. Grouped skills parse cleanly and read faster than one long comma list.
- 4
Tailor to the posting, not the job title
Two medical assistant postings can ask for different tools. Mirror the posting's language where it is accurate, and drop keywords you cannot support.
Interview questions for medical assistant candidates
Your resume determines which of these you get asked. Prepare the story behind every bullet you write.
- How do you handle a patient who is anxious about a blood draw?
- Walk me through your rooming process from front desk to provider.
- What do you do when insurance verification fails at check-in?
- How do you keep documentation accurate during a busy clinic day?
Medical Assistant resume FAQs
What certifications should a medical assistant list?
CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), or CCMA (NHA), with the certifying body and expiration. Also list BLS and any EHR-specific training.
Should clinical rotations count as experience?
Yes. List the setting, hours, and tasks performed under supervision, then move them below paid experience once you have it.
How do I show EHR experience?
Name the system and what you did in it — intake, vitals, orders, or scheduling. 'Epic' alone is less useful than 'documented intake and vitals in Epic'.
What should I leave off a medical assistant resume?
Patient names, identifying details, and equipment you cannot operate. HIPAA applies to resumes too.
